“Tu” is the opening poem of my manuscript Incarnate and in part references the song by the same title by Shakira on her classic Spanish language album Dónde están los ladrones?
"Carne" is a poem dedicated to activist Dolores Huerta.
Darrel Alejandro Holnes' poems have appeared in The Caribbean Writer, The Feminist Wire, Callaloo, on the Best American Poetry blog, and elsewhere. He is a Cave Canem and Bread Loaf fellow, and the recipient of various awards and residencies, with degrees in Creative Writing from the University of Michigan and the University of Houston. He currently teaches at Rutgers University and resides in New York, NY.
